SPRING CAMP 2013

Spring Camp was wet, windy, muddy and wild… but so much fun!

We arrived on Friday night in the dark and torrential rain to a slightly flooded campsite! Not to be disheartened – the Scouts, Young Leaders and Leaders, with the help of the onsite staff, started getting everything unpacked and putting the tents up. The Scouts did a great job, and everything was done by about 11.30 when we had copious amounts of hot chocolate, and hot dogs!

On Saturday morning the activities were archery and high ropes. There were a good number of excellent archers amongst the Scouts and we saw plenty of golds being hit! The ever popular balloon archery game also meant many lollies being consumed as prizes – much to the delight of the Scouts! The high ropes required guts, and a head for heights, and the fastest Scout around the course was Caleb, only beaten by Young Leaders (Ben was fastest) and James! James managed to beat the instructor!!!

Saturday afternoon was mainly just Scouts doing what they do best – running around the woods, building bridges and playing, and then we got fires alight and cooked dinner. Dinner was Chicken Korma and Rice, and every patrol cooked their own dinner over the fires. For many of the Scouts it was the first time they’d cooked a proper meal over a fire, and all of the Scouts agreed it was a delicious dinner, and so much better for cooking it themselves!!! They then had an inpromptu campfire and singsong led my the Young Leaders (Well done Jonah and Ben!).

On Sunday morning we woke up to snow! Again, not to be defeated, the Scouts all got up, cleared their tents and happily went off to activities of fencing (sword fighting) and crate stacking. We then broke camp and came home… caked in mud, exhausted but happy!

Thank you to James, Matt and Frank for helping me make this camp happen, and to our OUSTANDING Young Leaders Ben, Jonah and Bug. Without all of them the camp couldn’t have happened.
